Digipak Research:
Digipak's are simply a book style card or a form of board which usually holds a CD attached inside. This particular format is used when artists release a new album as it draws audiences to find out more about the artists iconography as well as educating them about the new songs created.
Although I like this format of the digipak, I have decided to create a DVD digipak as I prefer that type of format as the CD format looks like it is too squashed down and is quite difficult to read text.Friday, 30 September 2011

Past Students Work- Max & Mark (Interesting Ideas)
Great use of the pen tool within in this shot to show the previous shot within the present shot.
The interesting black and white shots throughout, and the odd colored shot creates a clear understanding of the genre.Mirror image shot adds drama towards the shot.
The blur effect suggests the camera is out of focus and is quite interesting to use and consider.
Past Students Work -Evie (Interesting Ideas)
Although the narrative within the video is unclear, the video is very successful in terms of varied shots and effects used with editing.
There is very good crosscutting within the video as it is sharp and quick cuts. This shot is very interesting as the camera is placed on the floor in an awkward position and creates a lurking atmosphere as the strange being walks into the shot. It almost looks as if it is approaching the audience.
Interesting high angle shots which have been used when the character has direct contact towards the camera.
Past Students Work- Imogen Heap (Interesting Ideas)
This video consists of many complex effects and a successful concept. The student expands on all effects she uses a very rapid pace to create a relationship between the music and the visuals. The atmosphere is very quick and eerie. The video is made up of very simple and straight forward shots and the editing does all the complex work of making the video successful.
Towards the end of the video we notice that there is a musical book which consists of notes, the student has created a fast pace flickering effect to create the idea that the images scene on screen are within a book. I think this idea looks particularly successful and I would like to experiment with this effect in the future.
The beginning of the video starts off with a black and white shot, it is successful as it has been created in pitch black and the lighting within the video is particularly powerful giving a very scary feel to the entire video.
This shot shows the violin being played very violently, whilst its being played the previous shot before it is whilst the current shot is displayed, to create a tracking effect. This idea is very successfully used throughout the entire video and has been used in a rapid, good way.

Nothin' On You - B.O.B ft Bruno Mars (Interesting Ideas)
The R&B, hip hop song "Nothin' On You" features the new comers B.O.B and Bruno Mars. The video is made up of the collage of many different girls being taped on top of one another.
- The concept of photo tapestry and collage is very unusual as it differs from many different videos.
- This establishing shot shows the artists being pasted on a background of New York City.
You're Beautiful-James Blunt (Interesting Ideas within the video)
This video is set on a snowy cliff and is set whilst its winter time. It features the artist singing about a girl who he saw and commits suicide. The genre is said to be soft rock, such a simple setting and narrative with a powerful moral.
- The video features many close-ups of the artist as he sings directly to the camera which gives the audience the impression that they are the girl that hes fallen in love with. The close-up makes the audience share a connection with the artist.
- As the artist sings he begins to take his clothes off and he looks up to the sky. This shot symbolizes seagulls circling above him leaving the audience to think that there is a hidden purpose for this.

- This shot illustrates the artists clothes all gone in this cold winter day leaving the audience to wonder why he took his clothes off.
- The artist takes his belongings out of his pockets and this is a close-up his belongings all lined up neatly in a row. This shot is significant as it gives the audience the impression that the artist only owned these items and nothing else. It also gives an intriguing reaction as to what he is about to do next, after he had just stripped out of his clothes and removed his belongings from his pocket. The viewers could only assume that he is about to commit suicide.
- This shot is the aftermath of the artist committing suicide. Whilst this shot is being displayed on screen the lyrics "but its time to face the truth, I will never be with you" are sung which implies that the artist had accepted that he couldn't be with the one he loved so he thought he had nothing to lose.
4 Minutes- Madonna (Interesting Ideas within the video)
The song "4 minutes" was written by Justin Timberlake, Madonna and Timberland. It is classed within the hip-hop genre consisting of very intense choreography. The video is based on both artists attempting to get away from a screen which deteriorates the skin. The video uses airbrushing and very soft lighting.
The idea of the video is different and draws audience in as its almost as if they are watching an action movie or series.
- This close-up is very artistic as it focuses on a couple kissing and their faces have some deterioration so the audience see their anatomy. It is a very interesting concept to consider.
- This low angle long shot is very unique as it shows both artists on a supermarket conveyor belt whilst performing their cat and mouse chase choreography. The concept is very simple and straight forward but is very effective.
- The editing consists of an intriguing effect. The shot looks as if it had been distorted by the use of a disproportionate mirror. It almost look s like we are viewing the video from an insect eyes perspective.

Crazy- Gnarles Barkley
This video is based on the inspirations of a famous psychological test used called the Roscarch Ink Blot Test. The video is entirely created with graphics which has made up a video out of ink. Its truly magnificent how the video is continuously transitioning into different types of visual imagery which can be a form of iconography for the artist.
